Little helper
Tara knows how to fold towels, put the milk in the refrigerator and unload the dishwasher. I'm not making this up. She is only 2 but seems to have the household knowledge of an older child. We don't know how she would know about dishwashers, or even know her way around a kitchen, for that matter. This little helper surprises us every day.
She does not like when I am out of her sight, she follows me from room to room, trying to anticipate my next need. She hands me a towel when I get out of the shower, she gives me the toothpaste and then scrounges around my closet to find a shirt for me to wear. Sometimes it's John's shirt but I hate to break her spirit so I pretend to put it on and switch it when she's not looking.
Is she really only 2? She covers her mouth sometimes when she giggles. When she gets hurt, I ask her if she's OK and she always says yes, so bravely, and she'll follow up with an "owwwww." She worries about our cat sneaking outside, she helps me call him when he gets out. She's a little helper. And she loves to be hugged for it.

She is an old soul Laura! I'm so glad you found each other, and are making one little girls dreams come true! You truly deserve an award for Mom of the year!!!
Posted by: Lori at May 10, 2005 08:05 AMI can't believe this "unloading the dishwasher" stuff! Where's MY little helper???
Last night I had to help her parallel park in the dark high school parking lot across the street for her stupid driver's test. (Not her fault, they're the idiots.)We couldn't find pylons, so we got these red 6 gallon gas jugs from Meijer to mark of the impossibly small spot they have to park in! They will flunk you if you can't parallel park like Michael Bloomberg's chauffeur in NYC!!! What's the deal? More money for "All Star" Driving school?
I had another almost-migraine so I missed the blog a couple days. Trying to stay away from bright objects that might make me laugh (ouch!). All this mother's day LUUUUV,
I'm all warm and fuzzy. Did Tara melt the Iceman? Why Stick Woman? She looked normal to me. Did I miss something Ann? Should we be doing an intervention and stuffing you with Valhrona chocolate from France (we did find some in Ukraine, believe it or not.)
Well, they ARE Europe...it was at the Rip-U-Off-Stupid-American Mini Mart where they kept our vodka, and pretended they didn't know what we were talking about. "Vodka? What Vodka????"
Laura, this is the fun mothering part, now. Wait til you have to Parallel Park. I CAN'T EVEN PARALLEL PARK. The truth is out!
Tara being such a good helper makes me a little sad in one way; as you remember that orphanage was very dilapidated and depressing. It (the orphanage) looks better in the photos.
Tara is so glad to be out of there I think she would put up new aluminum siding and reshingle the roof if she could. I really hope she grows up to "drive" you crazy, just like my girls, pardon the pun...

Sally, parallel park by pulling up to the front driver's door of the car in front of you first. Measure the center of that door with the demarcation between your front and back doors, and begin to back up! That's how far forward you need to be before backing up. Really! (More than you wanted to know).
Hey, how about Maggie making supper for the family last night? You have it pretty good too. I do have to admit Tara is VERY special! Makes me want to go bring back the rest of her fellow orphans!
Hi Jeanne! I had a great mother's day too! Aren't we lucky?
love, ellen
Posted by: Ellen at May 10, 2005 09:20 AMEarth to Mom: they don't let you park on a real street, so there's no car to measure by. And I still had to CLEAN UP after dinner!
