A sweet song

Sometimes when we're in the car, or playing with puzzles, or looking at books, Tara sings this sweet song in Ukrainian. We don't know what she is singing about, and at first, we weren't sure if it was just 2-year-old la-la-la stuff, but we noticed the same words, the same tune, each time. We want to videotape her singing the mysterious song, though we are never quite certain when she will do it. We will ask someone to help us decipher the words. We hope she forgets about her stay at the orphanage, yet we don't want her to forget this song from her homeland.

She does sing "la-la" in it, which she uses to refer to dolls and babies. Maybe it's some kind of lullaby?

She is learning about her new environment and, like any two-year-old, is testing the limits. She doesn't always stay in her chair at dinnertime; if she can't get her way, she'll lay on her stomach on the floor (or the driveway)and whimper, though we see her peeking at us for our reaction; and she points and whines if she wants something out of reach. This brings back all of the memories of Austin as a toddler! (And Sally on our week in Ukraine).

I heard Tara singing that little song on Mother's Day. Her dad repeated it back to her, the tune, and boy did she look at him, shocked! And he hummed it again, and then she smiled and smiled. I would say to try to get Austin to plink it out on a keyboard and then write at least the notes. It can probably be searched. Maybe Natasha would know it. Before Tara forgets it! It is a sweet little song. It is comforting toher somehow. Wow, what a special kid. What a special time in her life.

It probably is searchable, good idea. Wonder if Natasha would know...Call her & have Tara sing it. (-; Been reading some of the other Ukraine adoption blogs the last couple days. Amazing, everyone comments on the same things--the McDonald's in Kiev & the women in stilleto heels.
But it's bizarre how much people's experience varies in terms of what kind of bureaucratic hassles they face. It seems very capricious...

Interesting about the differences in the beaurocratic problems, Sally. Hmm...

This is a great entry Laura! Yes the little song in Tara's heart still has a little mystery to it. :o)

I think people like to try to make the little songs, special times and emotions, in life permanent. To clutch and grab and preserve them. It is great when we can do so or think we can do so but ultimately they are ephemeral and mysterious all the same. (Ha, don't i sound sentimental!)

Just to say, Laura, if you don't find the song, just assume it says, "I love you Mom and Dad. I love my new family. I'm so happy here." Because i'm sure that is what it really means!
