Balloons and bags
OK, so when you are out of toys for a 2 year old, you bring out the $1 bag of balloons...!
When John started blowing the blue balloon up, Tara and a little boy stood right in front of him with their mouths wide open in amazement. They squealed, squeaked, and jumped for the balloons. Very funny to watch.
We will remember to bring our camera next time. (!)
We bought a bag for souvenirs that we will check at the airport. Sister Karen: I don't know what you are anticipating, but there are really not that many things we can buy as souvenirs that you would want!
Meanwhile, Natasha is getting documents prepared for Thursday...

You told Karen you were getting her some big thing; is it a giant smoked kielbasa?
That's why she's jumping up and down. Me, I want to see Dr. Phil in that hat. We are having a blizzard here today (again.)
I don't think my girls have gone to school 5 days in a row since winter started.
At this rate, they'll be going til August for makeup days. Hope Austin got the day off...and Karen, too. s.
PS: Miss having lunch with you, Laura! We'll go to the union and get a Michigan salad when you come back. And Tara can get that Brownie sundae! Though you probably could use one too. I bet you're not eating out there (on the Adoption Stress Diet.)
Posted by: sally at March 1, 2005 03:00 PMWoah, Sal, now I don't want any souvenir kielbasa (??!) I was thinking of those leather pants the policemen wear. For Mike to wear, of course. Of course. Love the story of the balloons. There are so many sights and wonders for little Tara to experience. No matter what happens Thursday, IT'S ALL GOOD. Austin got an unofficial snow day today. That's called "The roads were so rotten so we slept in" trick. So I think he has been having a Runescape Marathon over here. Mike took him to the barber, its been almost 5 weeks, I don't want him looking like Cousin It. Mike gets that Marine cut, hopefully Austin just gets a trim. If he comes home with a hat on, don't blame me...
My friends in my genealogy research group have been monitoring your progress. They are the greatest group of people you could have praying for you.

****MOM****
Laura & John,
It's great to see the updates, after a few days of no internet access. Either, Karen or your mom said it , whatever happens Thursday, it's all good. It's all great! You must continue blog for at least a week after your return from the Ukraine with Tara. I'll bet she goes to bed at night hoping to see you two the next day. Wait until she realizes she has a brother! Your entries captures it all, you should think about pursuing this writing thing! It's Tuesday night, I'll pray that a shorter stay is what is meant to be for the three of you.
All the best.
Amy
Hey Laur & John...Tomorrow is the day! I am so excited for you. Little Tara is a lucky girl to have you two as parents and a terrific big brother waiting at home for all of you to return. I look forward to reading your blogs daily, your quite the writer Laur! Anxious to hear how tomorrow goes. Will say a prayer, though I know you won't need it. It's really happening!!!
Posted by: Vicki at March 2, 2005 10:45 AMLooks like your finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Tara is a beautiful little girl with a future that she maybe wouldn't have without your efforts.
On the home front, progress is slow with my recovery. Had a small set back over weekend when I starting running a fever but ok now. Doctors say I'm doing just fine.
Carol and I are looking forward to meeting your Tara on our next trip to Michigan. Our Laura's baby is due on the 25th, I don't know if I'll be able to make trip at that time yet.
Posted by: Bother Rick at March 2, 2005 12:12 PMI second the entreaty to continue the blog after returning to USA!
Big day coming---Better follow Mom's advice and EAT SOMETHING. Never a bad idea, in my universe! :o)
Yes please, let the return happen soon--my lovely sister misses her UM lunch buddy.
Adding my 2cents to the prayer circle, plus a finger-crossing for good luck!
Pamela
Hey guys...
I think the judge needs to know about the balloon extravaganza. What more proof will he/she need to know that you guys are going to be great -- and resourceful:-) -- parents for Tara. As I'm writing this, it's probably getting dark in Kiev and you're a bundle of nerves, anticipation and excitement heading into Thursday. GOOD LUCK! I've got my fingers and toes and everything else crossed that the judge not only says yes, but realizes that it's best to let you and Tara continue building your family relationship day by day, instead of taking a break and waiting some more. But whatever happens -- immediate or more waiting -- it's going to turn out great. And in 20 years, when she's graduating from college, this will seem like just a blip of well-worth-it time:-).
Tons of prayers and love.

Hey Laura and John,
Just wanted to let you know that we're still reading your messages down here in Houston and hoping for the best. Maybe you should swing by here on the way back to warm up (mostly sunny and 70 degrees)? I could turn on the pool heater and you could go for a swim....Meagan usually sets the water temperature for about 95 degrees. No? OK, I guess we'll just have to come up to visit in Michigan (brrrrr) after you get home and settle in. Take care and "Y'all hurry back, now".
