Sigh!
We wish we had news today but we don't. For some unknown reason, the director of the Ukraine adoption center didn't sign our letter for the court today, or the letters for about 20 other families.
She only signs these letters on Mondays and Thursdays, though we will beg for her to sign the letter over the next few days... She is very rigid on the days she signs these letters so our chances are slim. We feel like we are in the electric chair waiting for a call from the governor.
Once this letter is signed, it goes to the court and they set a hearing date.
AUSTIN: I'm glad you had a snow day today! We are having a no day, as in nothing happened in this process today. But I guess I already said that.

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"......, or something like that. Anybody know the correct version? (Maybe that's it). The one bright spot is that Tara gets to know you better and better before the long plane ride. She must be quite attached by now.
I almost tore a yellow flyer off a bulletin board here with 4 big letters - TARA - as the title. It was a notice of a trip coming up here at Henry Ford Village to an old Colonial Estate in PA like the Gone-With-the-Wind one. The trip isn't till May, so maybe I can take it down after that and bring it to Aunt Jeanne's when we get together.
Lovingly, Aunt Ellen
You didn't have a 'no' day. Every day is one step closer. Think of the story you can tell Tara someday...with most babies you have to wait 9 months, waiting for Tara probably seems like forever and worth every day! But Tara's been waiting for you for over 2 years. We can all wait a little while longer to meet her.
I think Austin is going to Eli's tonight. I think he misses his buddies from the neighborhood and from school. We kept him up late yesterday watching Indiana Jones. We may start the Star Wars series soon. When I went to wake him up this morning he looked like road kill laying there.
P.S. Mail the souvenirs! At least they'll get here before you do!!
P.P.S. Did I mention MAIL THE SOUVENIRS
Posted by: karen wiz at February 21, 2005 03:36 PMWow! I think they just want to get a few more US dollars out of you before departure.
Try finding some shoes like Tara's and click them together and say" there's no place like home, there's no place like home." Is that you auntie ell??
Start a scrapbook for Tara, pictures, news articles, maps and look around for real estate, you may need to find a summer home there.
Agghhhh!
Well, we hope you get back here soon. I bet you will cringe every time you hear that beatles song-"Back in the USSR".

Posted by: Denise and Mike at February 21, 2005 05:28 PMlaura & john,
this really is taking a long time (like other legal proceedings i can think of). i thought you were almost out of the woods, but it does seem interminable now.
speaking of other legal proceedings: regarding the one pertaining to our family, i talked to the judge's secretary, and she thinks that a february 28th meeting with the lawyer will resolve matters. to me, this means things should be settled in march, and we can all start looking into our mailboxes with a little more reason to hope. maybe that will cheer you up a little!

She's saying "Sign it! Sign it already!"
I just got back and couldn't wait to read how things are/aren't progressing. She is so darling and her name...Tara, is precious. I can't believe you have to wait for that judge, and for how long??? You will be in my prayers.
