Shuffling around
Your comments are getting wacky!
No news today, just going through the motions. We found a place that sells DVDs that have English versions. This was a big find. We couldn't take those Russian-dubbed movies on TV anymore. It's just not right, hearing Meg Ryan speaking Russian in "When Harry Met Sally." This was really on TV.
I'm distracted because John is waving a towel in the bathroom doorway to get steam from the shower into our apartment, which is very dry! This is entertainment in Ukraine. Now it's my turn to wave the towel.

Hey Laura, what'd I tell you about the dryness. That is why I sneaked those clothespins in with your stuff the day at the airport. Hang up wet clothes all over the apartment! You can't get sick for Tara, got to be in tip top shape.

Hey guys... So glad you updated your blog. Too much silence is worrisome! :-) Also glad you're finding such, um, creative ways to entertain yourself. Now I am beginning to understand the intense need for corner beer stands. The idea of Meg Ryan speaking Russian reminds me of many, many years ago when I went to a movie theater in France and saw both American Graffiti and Rocky Horror Picture Show dubbed into French. Talk about hard to wrap your mind around that! I hope you are staying sane and sausage free and your visits with Tara Vika [cool name] are getting better and better. I'm heading to San Antonio for a story, flying back through, of all places Detroit [which of course is the most direct route between Texas and DC!] so I will give your hometown a little hello. Wish I could see you -- all four of you:-).
xo, mm
Guys, You sound like a couple of wacky american astronauts on the russian space shuttle, a bit space happy...
And when Meg Ryan in that famous restaurant scene said "Dah!, Dah" OH Dah!", John went back into the shower.
Things for Laura to do:
1. Update us on the shopping stores, Target?
2. Decide who in the family is nuts?
3. Show us a more photo's...of anything...
Things for John to do:
1. Start a rock and roll band
2. Figure out if your business is making or losing money while you are gone
3. Start mailing stuff back that you will want to remember this trip by, this time.
Laura & John,
The story just gets better and better, I love her name.
Does she understand any of what is going on, why you and she are going for walks, meeting, doctor visits..? What was said to Tara as to why you and John are there? Has she been saying, "America"?
This is a great journal for all to share in the experience. We'll all know her when we met her.
Keep steam coming. Stay well.
Amy

Posted by: john tipton at February 15, 2005 08:46 PMCOMMENTS ARE GETTING WACKY???????
I have been out of town for a few days, so when I logged on here and read all of the comments......uuuhhhh......Is there some sort of secret language you guys talk???
I am a Lessnau. So I have NO idea what most of you were talking about. But maybe that was the idea!!!
Your daughters name is very cool. I LOVE IT!!!
Did you know that Rick had open heart
surgery yesterday? He had five arteries blocked and fixed. I heard of four, did not even know there were five.
I talked to Carol three hours after the operation and she said he was just coming out of the anesthesia and they were removing tubes.
He had no symptoms, but went in for stress test and that is when they found the problem.
I'll keep you posted on developments.
RESPONSE from Laura and John: We just heard about Rick. For those of you who don't know, he is John's brother. Keep him in your thoughts! And David, please keep us posted by email. Thanks.
Posted by: Dave Lessnau at February 16, 2005 08:11 AMI don't know Rick, but I hope he's ok!! Wow.
Lisa, don't feel left out of our mindless Wiz/Wes babbling. If you watch "Napoleon Dynamite" you will know more than you EVER wanted to...we always do this sort of thing at Holidays, too. It's Tradition. You see, our Dads were brothers. We miss them VERY, VERY much, and we all got the same warped sense of humor--it's genetic...it sort of keeps them here with us...
John Tipton! I am so jealous, I want to go get a little girl, too! I hope you get to do that. My two teenage daugters (one mine, one stepdaughter) and my husband busted a gut laughing at me for wishing I could adopt a little girl like Tara (or two). I told them I want one since Laura's getting one.(-; And they are teenagers now & they are so boring (no offense Caroline & Meagan.)They don't think I could even take care of a hamster, since they think all I do is eat chocolate & read this blog...
Laur--I can't stand the waiting, it's driving me crazy. Anyone else feel this way? Dave W.? Pretty soon, I'm gonna catch a plane & come out there. I'm gonna yell at those bureaucrats & desk monkeys & check out their chocolate. My family will realize what I REALLY do--boy, will I be appreciated when I get back! Ha!
Yes, Sorry Lisa D, all the incomprehensible jokes are from the movie Napoleon Dynamite--no secret language!! Promise!
I will certainly be praying for a speedy recovery for Rick, as I'm sure we all will. GOD BLESS HIM
Posted by: Pamela at February 16, 2005 12:22 PMLAURA AND JOHN --SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT RICK HAVING SURGERY, BUT IS THE BEST THING FOR HIM, HE WILL BE FEELING FINE SOON. dAD'S WAS VERY SUCCESFUL AT AGE 58.
HOPE TO HEAR MORE NEWS ABOUT TARA. AUSTIN IS DOING FINE AT MY HOUSE.
LOVE YOU XXXOOO ****MOM ****
Napolean Dynamite was STOLEN from Elvis Costello. He should sue them and get royalties or something. Austin is doing well, he misses you guys a lot. I don't get a lot of conversation from him. But I asked him, since he couldn't have his mom for a couple weeks, wasn't his Aunt Karen "the next best thing?" He looked thoughfully for a mooment out into space, then he smiled that great big smile and nodded vigorously. That's the most conversation (and the best) we have had!! What a guy!
Aunt Karen
