Hanging out on Saturday
Today we are hoping to get out and see more of Kiev and beyond. We have been spending much of our time in the downtown area where people's spirits seem to be fairly high since the new president, Yushenko, was elected. They see new hope for their country. Everywhere we went yesterday, the parliament proceedings were on TV or the radio, very loud. Even at the NAC. The members were interviewing the new prime minister, the first woman ever in that role! It reminded us of the Condoleeza Rice grillings.
We are planning to check out some of the old Orthodox churches today. They are huge and beautiful on the outside. They dominate the cityscape.
More later! Thanks for staying tuned. This journey can be a bit emotional and y'all are providing us with great distractions.
Bundling up and heading out!

Unbelievable saga...the suspense continues. It's like being a few days overdue and now you just wait to see what this baby looks like! John, now that you found the cold beer tent, has Laura found the Mrs. T's frozen pierogi tent? Tom said it's not worth the stroll out in the cold to catch the superbowl--New England's going to punish Philadelphia. The point spread is six in Vegas and Tom will give you eighteen. Our thoughts are with you for Monday. Have fun!!!!
Posted by: Sharon & Tom at February 5, 2005 08:31 AMYes, the Yushenko thing!! My God!! What a story that whole thing is (the dioxin poisoning and all that, election stuff), wow! It will be great to share w/ La Ninya what was a-goin'on (Cue Marvin Gaye) in her country while you were picking her up, and I know everyone's really looking forward to this as such a great thing for Ukraine's future. They've always been the "bread basket" for that region and it's just a special country. NeatoKeen.
Listen youse, I hope you put just EVERYTHING out of your mind and enjoy your weekend as though it were a vacation even though it has the welldigger's ass climate. Because, don't let any anxiety creep in during any laggy moments while you're gettin' through these last few days. THEN, once Monday's here and the family's getting to know each other (you three) it's going to be a whirlwind and then you'll be home and then you'll never get another weekend alone together, EVER! AAAH!
HEE HEE! :o)
Rice is good with Grilled chicken! :o)
Posted by: Pamela at February 5, 2005 01:23 PMHi guys! So enthralled with your journey...can't WAIT until Monday. Love the hat, boots, you'll be the style maven of the neighborhood, Laura! Winston's doing well...he may have tried to arrange a play date with Mr. and Mrs. Nibbles as we discovered little tufts of maroon rug fluff in the bathroom today (oops!) Had fun scratching him and watching wads of fur fly...hopefully your littlest family member isn't allergic!
Checked on Bowie at the Pet Resort. She's enjoying the mai tai's and pheasant-under-glass they're serving her. She did wonder where her post cards were...so no worries in Animal Kingdom! Austin, we still miss you-give us a call. Saturday without you is very lonely! Have a great weekend, looking forward to your next post!
